HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Saturday is “National Drug Take Back Day” and Hawaii residents can safely — and anonymously — get rid of expired or unused prescription drugs.
Tablets, capsules, liquids and other forms of medication will be accepted.
Everything can be kept in its original container and no labels need to be removed. However, new or used syringes will not be accepted.
Drive-through collection sites on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii Island will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Medicine should not be thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet because it could potentially harm aquatic life, increase the risk of accidental poisoning, or be mistaken for candy by children.
The department encourages everyone to help keep communities safe from the abuse and misuse of prescription drugs by participating in the National Prescription Take Back initiative.
